Louisa K. Cunningham
Marion: Louisa Katherine Cunningham, age 66, of Marion, died Wednesday evening, August 18, 2010 at Partners of Marion.
A war baby, she was born in Marion March 10, 1944 to the late Edwin J. and Ruth Louisa (Isaly) Leatherman. Her daddy Ed died in June 1944 after the Normandy invasion having never met his daughter. In 1950 Ruth married the late Newton D. Cunningham whom adopted Louisa.
As a child and young adult Louisa attended Marion City Schools, The Woods School in Langhorne, PA. and was an employee at Marca Industries.
Louisa loved to collect dolls, a lifelong hobby that flourished as she worked in toy sales at Hills, Ames, and Odd Lots department stores. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Forest Lawn Presbyterian Church where she served on the Board of Deacons and sang in the choir. Louisa served as a volunteer for East Lawn Manor and other nursing homes. Her service to others expanded with MGH Hospice leading devotions at meetings and sharing her Christian love with staff and families in need. Louisa became a devoted member at the Marion Senior Center enjoying creative writing, arts and crafts, the book club, and miles of travels throughout Ohio. A voracious reader, Louisa enjoyed the daily Star, and kept family and friends posted on current events.
She is survived by her brother, Marshall D. (Georg-Anne) Cunningham, a nephew Alek Cunningham, Marion, her uncle John (Nancy) Isaly, Avon Lake, eighteen cousins, and many more friends and relatives that enjoyed her wit, council, and unconditional love and devotion.
Friends and family may call at Boyd-Born Funeral Home on Wednesday August 25 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Thursday August 26 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Marion Friday August 27 at 1:00 p.m. Reverend Robert Howard will officiate and burial will follow in Marion Cemetery.
Contributions in memory of Louisa may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Marion General Hospital Hospice, and the Marion Senior Center.
