Paul Eaton Swartz
Paul Eaton Swartz, age 92, of Marion went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 17, 2012, at 9:45 p.m. from the DeWolfe House. He was born on December 7, 1919 in Ashland, Kentucky, the son of Calvin I. Swartz. Paul graduated in 1937 from Harding High School and received his Associates Degree from the Marion Business College. He was a lifelong member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church where he taught Sunday School and was also active with St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Paul served in the U.S.Army during WWII where he was a rifleman in Patton's 3rd Army and a clerk in the Officer's Pay Station. He was an avid sportsman and truly enjoyed bowling, golfing, and playing tennis. Paul pitched horseshoes professionally, and won the Ohio State Horseshoe Pitching Championship. He was also very involved in the state's Senior Olympics program. Mr. Swartz worked for the Isaly Dairy Co. from 1938-1940, then in March of 1941 he began employment as a clerk in the office of the Erie Railroad where he remained until retiring from Conrail in June of 1978. Paul truly enjoyed socializing with people in various restaurants throughout Marion. He had a real passion for his church, sports, and especially his family. On October 26, 1941 he married Donna Marie Voltz who preceded him in death along with a daughter; Carol Ann Swartz. Paul will be truly missed by his 2 sons; Jack R. (Bonnie) Swartz of Wadsworth, Oh. & William (Marilyn) Swartz of Marion, a daughter; Cathy (Gerhard) Dill of Painesville, Oh., 3 grandchildren; Mary (Rob) Eubanks of Midlothian, Tx., Emily (Kyle) Klaiber of Marion, & Andy Swartz of Powell, Oh., 7 great grandchildren; Madison Meachem, Kylie Klaiber, Hailey Eubanks, Logan Eubanks, Alexis Klaiber, Avery Klaiber, & Aleece Klaiber, and his daily companion; "Buffy", his dog. Friends may call at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home on Saturday, January 21, 2012, from 12 noon until service time at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Craig Lewis will be conducting the service and burial will follow in the Nevada Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Emanuel Lutheran Church, 241 S.
